You can also head to the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, featuring an American Beaux-Arts mansion completed in 1899. The United States Military Academy at West Point, founded in 1802, is also on the itinerary, as is Sleepy Hollow. The Sleepy Hollow legend comes to life during a tour of the local cemetery where author Washington Irving is buried. Back in the Big Apple on day seven, you'll have time to explore before saying farewell to your ship.

Exquisite onboard menus have been designed by acclaimed chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants. Cruises are booming right now, buoyed partly by the popularity of domestic seacations that hauled in first-time sailors. So much so that Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ 34,000-mile world trip for 2024 sold out in just over two hours, while the adults-only Virgin Voyages, which aims to throw cruise stereotypes overboard, rose to first place in Large Ships.

This relatively new cruise line, backed by Richard Branson's Virgin Group, is reinventing mainstream cruising with a hipper, more inclusive, younger vibe (though not too young; its ships are adults-only). The cruising arm of Ritz-Carlton has been in operation for just a bit over a year, and the jury still is out on where it ranks in the pantheon of luxury cruise brands. The line notably struggled to get off the ground after years of construction delays for its first and only ship.

Ponant's luxurious small ships sail to remote destinations like Antarctica, incorporating once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as eclipse spotting from the edge of the earth. The company also partners with Smithsonian and Disney on certain sailings. The other perks included in your cruise fare will depend on how much you pay; many larger cruise lines offer multiple tiers of fares. The lowest tier will be the cheapest, but you should expect to pay out of pocket for extras like drinks, certain restaurant meals and activities and excursions once you’re on board. Higher fare tiers include more amenities but are significantly more expensive.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

This coastal city at the mouth of the Columbia River is known for its Victorian homes, wineries, brew pubs, and Lewis and Clark heritage. Next, from Kalama, Washington, you can join an excursion to visit the remnants of the area around Mount St. Helens, which suffered a devastating eruption in 1980. Fans of upscale hotel chain Ritz-Carlton will feel at home on one of this line's yacht-like vessels. Popular with middle-aged couples, retirees and multigenerational families, the "Love Boat" line's ships aren't as flashy (or big, for the most part) as those of Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, and that's just the way its customers like it.

Azamara, Windstar and Viking Ocean cruises are three examples of luxury cruises. Virgin Voyages cruise line is a great option for travelers who want to enjoy a cruise vacation tailored exclusively for adults. Its ships offer a wide variety of specialty dining options, from a food-truck style market with a burger shop, taco shack and sushi bar. Cruisers who seek an ultimate luxury experience must typically take a trip with boutique, small-ship cruise lines such as Seabourn that have relatively few crowd-pleasing attractions. For a premium fare, MSC’s Yacht Club offers what’s called a “ship-within-a-ship” experience — a dedicated VIP enclave on a larger cruise ship that gives guests the best of both worlds. Paul Gauguin Cruises operates just one ship, but it is exquisite, hosting 330 guests and sailing only in the South Pacific to destinations like Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, and the Cook Islands.

Viking Cruises is a river and ocean cruise line that recently added expedition sailings and the Great Lakes trips to its repertoire. "T+L readers rave about the consistency of Viking's vessels and their Scandinavian design," cruise expert Fran Golden reported when Viking once again topped T+L's World's Best Awards last year. Viking came in at No. 1 in T+L's best mid-size ship category and river cruise category. Golden said the WBA Hall of Fame honoree's 50 river "longships" are "light-filled floating boutique hotels."

Lindblad Expeditions' 7-night Columbia & Snake Rivers: Food, Wine and History Cruise

Off-ship experiences include sampling local beer and oysters in Astoria, Oregon; visiting Multnomah Falls or hiking Beacon Rock; and having a private vineyard visit and downtown wine walk in Walla Walla, Washington. Launched in 2022, it's currently the largest river ship in the U.S. and features three restaurants and an aft infinity pool. Get to know the best cruise ships in a variety of categories, based on member review ratings for cruises taken in the last year. Avalon Waterways carefully considers each element of every cabin, and it shows.

Princess Cruises' customers also like its wide range of itineraries, including voyages in Asia and Australia, as well as closer-to-home places like the Caribbean. This France-based line is a specialist in expedition cruising, a type of cruising that involves traveling to remote, hard-to-reach places on small, hardy vessels that carry their own landing craft. Oceania has carved out a niche with relatively small, upscale ships that offer a significant upgrade from mass-market vessels but aren't quite as fancy (or pricey) as luxury offerings. You can expect to spend between 4% to 10% of your trip cost for cruise travel insurance. The final price will depend on your age, cruise cost, coverage type and trip length, among other factors.

Pricing is higher than at the big, mass-market lines but not quite as high as you'll find at luxury lines. Yacht Club guests get 24-hour butler service and their own dedicated concierge, plus a premium drink and internet package. They also enjoy complimentary access to the ship’s spa as well as other perks like a luggage packing and unpacking service and priority check-in and check-out. MSC is a European cruise line that offers itineraries in the Caribbean as well as to popular destinations in Europe like the Mediterranean and Norway.

The ships even offer babysitting services so grownups can have a night out at a restaurant, nightclub or show. Royal Caribbean International’s ships sail to a wide variety of destinations, from shorter trips to the Caribbean and Mexico to longer vacations to Alaska, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific. Carnival’s low fares and fun amenities make it a popular choice for those looking for a quick, affordable cruise (although it also offers longer trips to Europe, Australia and more). Its ships cater to travelers looking for an entertaining, exciting getaway — with an emphasis on pools, waterslides, mini-golf and karaoke, plus comedy shows, casino games and nightclubs for adults. While cruising, you'll enjoy nightly entertainment that celebrates the region's musical heritage. American Cruise Lines offers this itinerary on four ships from April to October 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Viking’s expansion – including to places like the Mississippi River and Egypt – means there’s an itinerary for everyone. While most cruises are on the ocean, some lines (like Viking) offer trips in smaller vessels that cruise along rivers. These tend to be quieter and attract an older clientele compared to a mainstream ocean cruise. Cruising is a popular vacation option for millions of travelers around the world in large part because of its convenience. Travelers stay in one room for the entire trip while the boat travels from port to port.

Single cruisers on Norwegian have access to a dedicated lounge and meetups where they can mingle with other travelers, too. That’s not to mention all the regular activities and excursions Norwegian offers, from rock climbing and bowling to spa treatments to boxing classes. Extras like shore excursions and souvenirs can add up quickly, as can certain on-board activities. Carnival also offers all-inclusive rates that will help avoid any surprise expenses, but travelers should of course be prepared to spend more up front. After more than two years of sailing restrictions and limited voyage options due to the coronavirus pandemic, cruisers and cruise lines are excited to be on the seas again,” said Nicola Wood, senior travel editor at U.S.

Their editor’s opinions factored in 30%, traveler ratings on CruiseLine.com factored in 50%, and the ship’s health rating from the CDC comprised the remaining 20%. "The cruise itself was absolutely perfect. Nice weather, great excursions, beautiful scenery, nice ship and excellent staff." "With world class entertainment, fabulous food and amazing service, we will be cruising again with Celebrity in the future." On the Pacific end of your voyage, you'll visit Astoria, Oregon — the oldest American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains.

Known as the world’s most popular cruise port, Port Canaveral welcomes you to explore all it has to offer. Here’s everything to learn about your cruise from Port Canaveral (Orlando). The next Icon of Vacation℠ turns up the volume on family fun with unbelievable thrills, chill and wows for the whole crew.

EXPLORE OUR FLORIDA CRUISE SHIPS

They’re not just ports; they’re gateways to adventure, culture, and relaxation. In this section, we’ll embark on a virtual tour, showcasing the distinctive features, cruise lines, and exciting destinations that make Florida’s ports a favorite starting point for many cruise vacations. Before you plan your trip, you should consider which cruise lines and itineraries are available from each port. Some ports may offer a wider variety of cruise lines and itineraries than others.

Essential Strategies for Effortlessly Navigating Cruise Ports in Florida

The port is also within driving distance of other popular vacation destinations like Orlando and Clearwater Beach. The Sunshine State has a lot to offer, from its stunning beaches and warm climate to its diverse culture and cuisine. Norwegian cruises depart from Miami, Tampa, and Port Canaveral to visit destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, and South America, as well as Spain and Portugal. Strategically, there are three piers utilized by several hundred visiting ships each year, that are sailing to or from the Caribbean. Two of the piers (Mallory Square and Pier B) are within an easy walk of downtown. To encourage passengers to return again and again, the cruise line has offered unlimited vacation passes.

Here, every day is a sun day with an all-you-can-swim buffet of seven unique pools — the most ever on a cruise. And families discover adventure for all ages at Surfside℠, a stay-all-day destination right onboard that opens the floodgates on family fun. Each port offers something different, with different experiences in the surrounding area. Depending on which cruise line, ship, and itinerary may also impact which cruise port in Florida you choose, relatively all of them include Caribbean voyages. Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Apex sets sail from Fort Lauderdale to some of the most picturesque islands in the Caribbean. From November 2023 through April 2024, Apex will offer weeklong sailings to Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and the Dominican Republic.

But if there’s one port that’s like the lead singer of a rock band, it’s none other than Port Miami. Though it may lack the glamorous diversity of Miami, Port Canaveral stands as a preferred stopover for some of the world’s most opulent cruise ships. Lines docking here include Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Carnival, Disney Cruise Line, and MSC.

Though it sounds adventurous, gator tail actually tastes a little bit like chicken and is quite delicious when cooked properly. The tail is typically deep-fried and enjoyed either as a starter or an entrée with a spicy or sweet dipping sauce. Florida is a melting pot of people as well as cultures – and the food scene here certainly reflects that.

Why choose anywhere but Tampa?

Positive impressions start from the moment the cruise guests arrive at the modern, award-winning Tampa International Airport. Florida’s primary cruise harbors encompass Port Miami, Port Canaveral near Orlando, Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, and the Port of Tampa Bay. Additionally, more specialized cruise lines are served by smaller ports, such as the Port of Palm Beach.

All these cruise ports in Florida are easily accessible from major airports, interstates, and even rail transportation. You can find cruises from Florida to fit every traveler's wants and needs, from a weeklong family vacation to a shorter getaway for a couple or group of friends. Older-yet-intimate ships, newer mega-ships and everything in between depart from the Sunshine State to destinations in the Caribbean and Bahamas. With just 2,668 guests onboard, Rotterdam is homey and charming with a touch of luxury. The ship doubles down on live music; a live band plays all the rock hits at the Rolling Stone Rock Room, while an eight-piece band gets everyone on their feet when they play R&B favorites at B.B.

Starting at just $175, choose the perfect cruise from Florida that fits your traveling desires. The shops in Historic Cocoa Village sell local handmade art and tropical décor. Souvenir shopping in Orlando is best at Disney Springs, Universal CityWalk and along International Drive.

No problem – choose from a wide range of two-, three- and four-night itineraries cruising from Florida to the Caribbean onboard several fleet-favourite cruise ships. Shore excursions in Florida include adventures in national parks and tours around vibrant cities. Escape the winter chill and head off to an Eastern Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale. Take advantage of a holiday weekend and book a three-night cruise from Miami that stops in Key West and the Bahamas.

With four major ports, sailing out of Florida offers so many exciting options to explore on a day trip before or after your cruise. Find cruising near you from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando (Port Canaveral) or Tampa and you'll find plenty of things to do to soak up the sun and culture in the Florida region. We're lucky in Florida, home to some of the world's busiest cruise ports including PortMiami, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Port Tampa Bay, JAXPORT, and Port of Palm Beach.

More party experience than a traditional cruise, these Bahamas-bound journeys are all about letting loose Margaritaville-style. Home to a thriving artist community, enjoy open-air art shows and explore innovative galleries tucked throughout the city. Stroll along the palm-lined, harbor-front park for the chance to hear the spontaneous jam of local musicians who have been known to serenade the sunset.

Not to mention unforgettable opportunities to soak up the sunshine and unwind, like a sprawling freshwater lagoon, a beach dedicated just to relaxation, and the first Floating Cabanas in The Bahamas. A fan-favorite destination you can visit on Florida cruises sailing from all of the state’s major cruise ports, Perfect Day at CocoCay is a popular option for families, couples and solo travelers. When you embark on a cruise from Florida with Celebrity, you’ll experience the perfect tropical getaway, both onboard and off. Spend your days in port lounging on pristine white-sand beaches and swimming in crystal clear waters. Find your adventurous side during exciting excursions that include scenic hikes up a volcano, snorkeling dives in vibrant coral reefs, and horseback rides through the jungle.

Upon arrival at the port, passengers are greeted by a friendly staff who will assist them with their luggage and guide them through the embarkation process. The terminal features a seating area, a snack bar, and restrooms for passengers’ comfort and convenience. There are 20 miles of beach surrounding Jacksonville, and visitors can take the Beaches Trolley for only $1.50 per person to explore them all. Located on the northern tip of Florida’s east coast in Jacksonville, Florida, the Port of Jacksonville (JaxPort) is a highly frequented starting point for voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Situated only 20 minutes from Tampa International Airport (TPA), cruisers can take shuttles, public transport, or rideshare services to the terminal. Embrace a fun-filled escape in Orlando while you savor a variety of culinary delights among a collection of waterside cafes, world-class restaurants and quick-service counters.

NEW Carnival-XL ship

The ship takes her name from a former Carnival cruise ship, Celebration, that was part of the Holiday class. The name also pays homage to the companies long history as the ship was delivered during Carnival Cruise Line’s 50th birthday year. Carnival Firenze will join the fleet in spring 2024 after being transferred from sister brand Costa Cruise Lines. The ship will offer a variety of cruises year-round, with sailings set for popular destinations in Baja, California and the Mexican Riviera. This ship sailed under the name Costa Firenze with Costa and is also a Vista Class ship and sister to the Costa Venezia which has already joined the Carnival fleet. She will be the newest ship in the Excel class, Carnival Jubilee will share many of the same features guests love on Mardi Gras – including the award-winning BOLT, The Ultimate Sea Coaster.

Carnival Dream Cruise Directors

Seven of the line's 25 vessels measure less than 100,000 tons, which makes them almost midsize by today's cruise ship standards. The self-described "fun ship" line is the king of short, affordable, fun-focused cruises from U.S. ports to the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico and other nearby destinations. No matter where you live in the U.S., you're probably within a few hours of a Carnival ship.

Carnival cruises to Cuba

As you might expect, pricing for ships will generally be lower during offseason periods such as September, October and parts of November. Note that, in contrast to airline frequent flyer programs, cruise line loyalty programs do not require you to requalify for status every year. However, it's not as difficult as it might at first seem to hit the more rewarding higher-level tiers in just a few years if you're cruising a lot.

Barbados

You can count on Carnival Jubilee’s atrium to set the vacay vibes for your whole cruise. Look up and you’re honestly in for an eyeful — floor-to-ceiling windows, 14-foot LED screens, a ceiling of 1,400 color-changing lights… everything points to BIG FUN happening in here. And even if you’re just passing through, know that you’ll definitely be back later. Center Stage features a rotating selection of live entertainment, while Grand View Bar serves up great drinks with plenty to feast your eyes on. In Grand Central you're never far from cups of comfort at JavaBlue™ Café, great dining spots like Bonsai Sushi™ and Bonsai Teppanyaki™, plus feel-good entertainment like Piano Bar 88™ and The Punchliner Comedy Club™. And staterooms aboard Carnival Celebration® are packed with innovative changes to both.

Entertainment and activities

Carnival draws a lively, outgoing crowd looking to be part of the action. Carnival trips are all about letting loose and having a good time. Maybe you'll drink a little too much, eat a little too much, play a little too much — but in the end, you'll say it was your best trip ever. Occasionally, Carnival will deploy a ship to Europe for a few weeks or months. This often takes place when a vessel needs to go to a European shipyard for an overhaul.

Who sails Carnival Cruise Line

We look forward to the future Carnival cruise ships with the new era of LNG-powered ships entering service. These new generation ships will grow Carnival even further, bringing new features and innovation to the cruise vacation experience. Tropical was the first new cruise ship built for Carnival Cruise Line in 1982.

NEXT-LEVEL FUN IS

CCL has the largest fleet in the Corporation's group of companies and accounts for over 1/5 of the Group's worldwide market share. CCL's executive control is provided by Corporation's North American division. CCL pioneered the concept of less expensive, short-break itineraries. In 1996, the 101,000-GT Carnival Destiny (now Sunshine) became the world's biggest passenger ship and the first to weigh over 100,000 tons. For 50 years - between March 11th, 1972 (CCL's maiden voyage with TSS Mardi Gras out of PortMiami) and March 11th, 2022, the company served 90+ million passengers.

Carnival Freedom is the final ship in the popular Conquest-class, ending an era of ship class and design for the cruise line. The ship entered service in 2007 and cost $500 million to construct. You might be wondering why Carnival Splendor is the only ship of its class in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. The ship was originally ordered by sister line Costa Cruises as a Concordia-class vessel. The ship was transferred to operate for Carnival during her construction in 2008 in Genoa, Italy.

On many ships there are extensive dedicated spaces for the different groups. Carnival claims to draw more children than any other cruise line. So perhaps it makes sense that it has one of the most extensive children's programs at sea.

The new-look vessel is part of the Sunshine class and from December 13, 2021, is sailing from the Long Beach Cruise Terminal in California. You could call the Carnival Venezia half new, as she was transferred from sister brand Costa Cruises in 2023 and sailed her inaugural voyage as part of the Carnival Cruise Line fleet on May 29, 2023. The ship underwent a huge multi-million-dollar transformation in Cadiz, Spain, but still kept with her Italian traditional decor. Whether you use a travel agent or not, make sure to maximize your credit card points when paying for the cruise by using a credit card that offers extra points for travel purchases.

The huge transformation cost Carnival $200 million and the ship is now 101,509 gross tons with a guest capacity of 2,984 at double occupancy and 1,108 crew members. As of December 4, 2023, the newest new-build ship in the fleet is the Carnival Jubilee, the third Excel-class vessel in the fleet. The vessel took over from sister ship Carnival Celebration, which joined the fleet at the end of 2022.

This honors Carnival’s original Mardi Gras that first sailed for the brand on March 11, 1972. Discover the latest and greatest Carnival ships that are currently out at sea. Carnival has made things a little confusing for Cruise Addicts by completely renaming and refurbishing some of its older vessels. If that wasn’t confusing enough, they have recently moved and renamed several ships from the Costa brand to Carnival Cruise Line. Carnival also has plans to move more Costa ships to Carnival in the future. Vaccinated guests are not required to wear a face mask on board a vaccinated Carnival cruise, but masks are required in certain events, such as embarkation and debarkation.

If sensible – don't flaunt wealth, avoid isolated beaches – chances are you'll be fine exploring independently. While there is a degree of diversity on the island your food options are limited to typical island meals with accents of spices, seafood, chicken and pork. You can also find pizza places, and typical American restaurants with burgers and salads. St. Croix experiences typical tropical Caribbean weather where it’s sunny throughout the year. With the winter season bearing lows of the mid-70s to ’80s in December to March.

Most mainstream big box stores and fast food restaurants are found within the inner part of the city, allowing for independent stores to occupy the main towns. The shopping experience on the island is highlighted by the 18th and 19th century buildings and stone streets you walk along. Nearly every part of each town is like walking through a museum. If you want to experience some of the best snorkeling in St. Croix then head over to Buck Island. Read more about the stunning beaches of nearby St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. Explore the art, meet the artists behind the art, watch them work or learn a thing or two in an art class and finally buy the piece that impresses you most. Ensure you have company and check your swimming abilities as the waters are a bit deep further offshore. Sandy Point is one of the most stunning beaches in St. Croix and also the longest stretching 2 miles long. It features the clearest turquoise blue waters and a soft white sandy beach.

You can get a feel for St Croix's sugar plantation heritage at the Estate Whim Museum, an atmospheric, 12-acre site, which includes a coral-stone great house surrounded by a dry moat to keep it cool. To venture beyond Frederiksted, sign up up for a cruise-ship tour or use a taxi or a shuttle minibus to explore. Taxis and shuttles buses will be waiting for custom at the end of the cruise-ship pier. From Frederiksted to the island's capital Christiansted takes about 30 minutes and costs US$16 (£13) return per person in a shared shuttle, while a taxi for two passengers costs US$24 (£20) one way. A three-hour private taxi tour of the island should cost around US$100 (£82) for up to four passengers. This beautiful beach area on the western tip of St. Croix is also a wildlife preserve, particularly known for being a nesting ground for endangered leatherback turtles.

This park boasts of the largest mangrove system in the USVI’s. A popular thing to do here is taking a kayak tour of the mangrove by the day and seeing the bioluminescent bay by night. While the name is a mouthful, it really does represent one of St. Croix most diverse attraction. The combination of important archaeological sites, land formations and the sea in Salt River Bay Park creates a diverse ecosystem that is fun to explore.

St. Croix has a vibrant art scene that all art lovers are bound to enjoy. Go on an enchanting tour of the island’s forest and coastline on a horse. Unlike the ATV tour of the island, this is a slow-paced adventurous exploration. Visit St. George Botanical Gardens where nature and history blend well to create a perfect 2-3hr getaway while in St. Croix. The 16-acre botanical garden 4miles northeast of Frederiksted is a must visit.

The small size of the beach makes it cozy, and yet it still attracts plenty of activity whether you’re paddleboarding on the water or ordering a drink from Rhythms, the go-to bar on the beach. Just a short drive north of Frederiksted, Rainbow Beach is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and stunning sunsets. It's a perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, and water sports with beach bars and restaurants nearby, making it a great choice for a day of relaxation and fun.
